About

My name is Chris Young and I am currently working on a book about the life of Robert Gilkerson and his team, Gilkerson's Union Giants.

Through my research of the last several years I've verified more than a thousand games played between 1917 and 1935, with contests in 18 different states and four Canadian provinces.

I've identified the names of over two hundred different players and uncovered many great stories, stats and details about the barnstorming team that have never been compiled before.

In fact, most of what is currently available online about Gilkerson and the Union Giants is either incomplete or inaccurate. With this blog, I hope to share bits of research and help correct and expand upon what has already been written about the team.
